First, ride around the gulf in search of one of the many pods of resident dolphins. Along the way whales, turtles and other marine wildlife are often spotted. Once a pod has been located, hop into the water with snorkeling gear and get towed gently around by the boat as it stays with the dolphins. Swim along with dolphins circling all around you, it is truly nature at its finest. Don’t be surprised if you come across a whale shark. Gold Panning and Prospecting

The Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica is famous for its rich gold deposits. Since at least the eight century, indigenous people have mined for gold in this area. After the Spanish conquest devastated the indigenous population in the sixteenth century, mining was considerably reduced. Due to economic conditions in Costa Rica and the rising price of gold in the mid seventies, there was a modern day gold rush on the Osa Peninsula. Many locals turned to gold prospecting as there main source of income and some even became very wealthy. Stories of fist sized nuggets coming out of the area are true and I have seen some huge ones first hand in the private collections of successful gold miners. I heard from one miner that his operation was extracting an average of about 7 kilos of gold a day. He even told me that once, he found a 12 inch crack in the bedrock and pulled over 4 kilos of gold out of it. This activity lasted until 1986 when government intervention stepped in and stopped all mining in Corcovado National Park. The mining operations were devastating the eco-system and the park was degrading at an alarming rate. Gold mining still continues today but on a much smaller scale and outside the park boundaries. Even today, some local shops will still take gold dust as currency from local hand miners.

Our gold prospecting tours will take you up to Dos Brazos where many old locals still enjoy the freedom of life associated with gold mining. No boss, no schedules, no overhead. Our knowledgeable guides, who have all mined for gold as an income source, will teach you all you need to know about excavating material and how to run it through pans and sluices. How much gold you find depends on how hard you work and a bit of luck. Of course, you get to keep all the gold you find.
Guaranteed to be the best gold tour offered on the Osa Peninsula.

This is a great tour for families!

Tour Includes: Roundtrip transportation to Dos Brazos, guide, gold pans, sluices, tools and cold drinks. (Full day tour also includes lunch)

Bring swimming suit, shoes that can get wet, sunscreen and camera

Botanical Garden Tour

This tour begins in Puerto Jimenez where you will be picked up and transported by taxi-boat to a remote beach nestled against a steep hillside enveloped in primary rainforest. Here lies the residence and gardens of Ron and Trudy Mc Allister, self taught botanist who have made this their home for almost thirty years now.

The Botanical Gardens and Casa Orchideas are the fruits of almost 30 years hard work by the two enthusiasts. They eagerly escort visitors through their gardens spotlighting the unique and vast array of tropical plant life. The 2-3 hour tour will give you a good introduction to the vast wonders of one of the world’s few intact tropical rainforest systems. Taste, touch and smell the plants as well as look at them. This is great way to explore and discover the bio diversity and importance of Costa Rica’s National Parks.
